Under NZ Young Farmers ownership, Donald’s Farm operates as a commercial dairy farm, with the future aim to utilise the farm as an outdoor learning centre to inspire younger generations to get involved in the dairy industry.
A legacy comes to life
An outdoor classroom for NZYF members and the wider community, Donald’s Farm aims to connect people with farming, having a particular focus on children and young people.
Donald’s Farm was gifted by the late Donald Pearson to New Zealand Young Farmers in 2018
His wish for the farm is to provide initiatives to attract young people to farming. The farm is now managed by NZ Young Farmers member, Sam Waugh (pictured).
74ha dairy farm based near Auckland, New Zealand
The farm is located 33 km from the Auckland CBD and the effective area of the farm is 65ha, the rest is covered in areas of native bush and planted gullies.
150 jersey cattle
The farm is currently running approximately 110 jersey cows and 10 milking shorthorns, these are milked through an 11 a-side herringbone shed.
